Cairns is the closest airport for international and Australian major airlines. It is a 50 minute scenic drive north along the Captain Cook highway, a highway which offers spectacular coastal views for 48 kilometres and then meanders for the final 10 kilometres through the sugar cane fields before turning into the palm-lined entrance to Port Douglas.  A helicopter transfer directly from Cairns airport is available by prior arrangement.
